Companionship

"And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him" (Genesis 2:18).

What does it mean to be a help meet for someone? According to Google, a help meet is a helpful companion or partner, especially one's husband or wife. You might be thinking, where is Kat going with this? Continue reading on, and you will receive your answer.

As teens, and young adults, we all want to be coupled. Am I right? Love is such a beautiful concept that everyone wants to experience and partake in. Sadly, many of us do not know how to love, and what it means to love. However God, the Creator of all things, and the wisest of them all, knows the true meaning of love.

God saw a lonely Adam working in the field, naming all the cattle, fowls of the air, and every beast of the field (Genesis 2:20) . Realizing all of this, He decided to create a a help mate from Adam's rib. God did not say, I will create a side-chick for him, or a friend with benefits for Adam. No, He said a "help meet," a companion.

Companionship is the foundation of all relationships. Most of the times when people jump into a relationship without forming some type of bond/friendship, 9 times out of 10, that relationship does not last. Why? Because it lacked a firm foundation-COMPANIONSHIP. And it's crazy because God knew this concept from the beginning.

What point am I trying to make? Here it is: establish a friendship before diving into a relationship. I promise you, it will save you from wasting your time with someone. Really get to know who that person is. Their likes/dislikes, their dreams/goals, and most importantly, their relationship with Christ (if that's a huge factor for you). Just who they really are period. If he/she complements who you wish to marry in the future, go for it. That's where you and that person should discuss moving on to the next level, which is commitment. If not, dump him/her in the garbage. They are definitely not the help meet God has specially created for you.
