Hello loves! Welcome back to another blog post :) Lately, I've been receiving questions on my spirituality and how I do my morning devotions, so this post will answer those questions for you all. So let's begin!
As a Christian, it is so imperative for us to study God's word DAILY! The Bible says that we have an adversary out there, (the devil) who's ready to devour us. (1 Peter 5:8) And if we are not rooted in God's word, or vigilant and sober, we will surely fall.
When I read that text, I was like okay Lord, how do I even apply this to my daily life? Then I stumbled on Psalms 1:2 which states that we must meditate day and night on God's law (or His word overall). I was like okay, I need to start doing a morning and a night devotion. Initially, I did not know where to begin or how to do a devotion. I was like should i purchase a devotional? (Which isn't a bad idea.. but it's not as personal). Luckily for me, a pastor of mine taught the congregation a way to do our devotions. He mentioned that we should take an hour out of our day to study Jesus's life (I mean...He is our great example). Whatever prayer or promise is mentioned, make it your own and place your name in that prayer. By doing that, you're making it personal and practical. I was like wow, I love that idea! I put it into practice, and honestly guys, it was and still is a complete blessing to me!
Here's an outline on how I do my hour morning devotion:
- I sing 1 or 2 hymns (look @ Matt. 26:30)
- I read a Psalm (I pick one based on how I'm feeling but Psalm 5 is a great one for morning devotion)
- I sing a prayer song that prepares me for prayer.
- I pray (not a microwave prayer. A really genuine prayer where I pour out my heart to my Father)
- I study a chapter of my choosing (not read.. but diligently study by comparing scripture with scripture and making prayers my own and claiming God's promises)
- I write a prayer in my prayer journal (It's typically centered around what I just studied or whatever is on my heart).
- Lastly, I close it off with a closing prayer.
It may sound like a lot... but honestly guys, what I've noticed is when you're studying God's word or just spending quality time with Him, TIME FLIES! You don't even realize an hour goes by and sometimes I'm just like dang.. I don't even want to put my Bible down. It's just so refreshing. I'm not going to lie to you guys, waking up is sometimes a hassle... but it's always worth it towards the end of my devotion. I really had to and continue to ask God for consistency and for the Holy Spirit's conviction because sometimes I be wanting to snooze my alarm clock. But then I remember that God never snoozes me when I need Him most.. so why can't I just give Him one hour out of my day. So that's what encourages me to continuously wake up and do my morning devotion each day before I do anything else.
Yes, you have to sacrifice sleep.. but God sacrificed His ONLY son. Which is greater? (I'll let you ponder on that) Honestly though.. after I finish my devotion, I'm not even tired anymore. It's like I get this burst of energy to just conquer the world. Okay... may not the world, but definitely my day. Lol But I hope this was helpful to someone out there. May you all be blessed, and let me know how you do your devotion in the comment section under the page "Inspirational Insight."
God bless! -Love, Kat (:
